ELIC teachers are required to raise their own financial support to serve overseas. As a part of your partner development package, you will receive a number of benefits. ELIC's all-inclusive financial profile is designed to ensure that all of your needs are met. Actual costs for the services listed below are higher than the amount ELIC teachers are required to raise. Monthly Personal Allowance
Your profile may provide you with a monthly personal allowance in U.S. currency. Contact us for more information about specific amounts.
Housing and Utilities
Housing costs are raised through your profile and allowances are made available for everything you need to furnish your new home in Asia.
Transportation
Complete transportation is provided from your home city in North America to your host institution in Laos and back to your home city.
Medical Care
ELIC provides additional medical insurance that includes emergency medical evacuation and care outside of Laos, if required. ELIC also provides a life insurance policy and Foreign Workers Compensation. Canadian teachers are insured by the CCCC, Expatriate Insurance Plan and includes medical, life and dental insurance, LTD and Medical Evacuation Assistance.
In-Country Support
Our support continues after your departure to Laos. Each of our teachers is visited every semester by experienced staff who are committed to serving our teachers and their families. In addition, we have a number of North American staff serving our teachers out of our Beijing and Hong Kong offices.
North American Support Services
Once you are in Laos, you will appreciate the ongoing support from our U.S. office. From receipting, tracking, and acknowledging donations to formatting and mailing newsletters, our office is ready to serve your needs. Prior to arrival at training, experienced staff will assist you in developing a committed team of partners and equip you with picture cards and other partner development resources.
Complete Training
All new teachers in our program go through a TEFL Certificate training from Wheaton College. This training includes a practicum and is designed to ensure that you arrive in your classroom well-equiped for a rewarding teaching experience. Seminars on key aspects of culture, curriculum, building relationships with students and team dynamics are some of the additional training components designed to ensure a rewarding and positive experience in Laos.
Annual Conference in Thailand
Each year, we gather all of our teachers together for an enriching week of rest, fellowship and on-going training during the mid-winter break. All conference expenses are covered, including a transportation allowance from your home in Laos.
Placement on a Team
Each of our teachers live and work in the context of community. As an ELIC teacher, you will be placed on a team in Laos. Your team can be a valuable source of friendship, teaching ideas and general support overseas. No one goes alone with ELIC.
Curriculum Resources
Curriculum professionals provide our teachers with resources specifically designed for our program. In addition, each team is equipped with a resource library for our teachers. Each of these resources is designed to ensure that you will be able to teach with excellence and have a positive professional experience.
Debriefing
ELIC provides a debriefing at the end of your time of service with ELIC. The debriefing is designed to help you adjust back to your home culture and make a smooth transition back to life in North America.
