Personal Growth & Development

Personal growth and development in the CTF context will take place in two main ways: mentoring one-on-one with your team leader and study as a team during Tizo.
Life On Life
Mentoring has many facets, experiences, and expectations. Each week as a CTF teacher, you will meet one-on-one with your team leader, but this isn’t the only aspect
of mentoring. Mentoring during the CTF year will look like "iron sharpening iron." Mentoring in this context is life on
life. It is not a picture of the mentor ‘pouring into’ the mentored,
but rather the team leader being a resource and someone who walks
alongside the CTF teacher to encourage, challenge, and hold accountable
in the areas of personal growth, professionalism in teaching,
adjustment to culture, team relationships, and fruitful outreach. This
is no small task and it requires the CTF teacher to be teachable,
vulnerable, and lay aside personal expectations of past mentoring
experiences. It also places responsibility on the teacher to express to
the team leader what they would like to gain from the one-on-one
experience.
Tizo
Tizo is from the Greek root word ‘
artizo’ which means ‘equip.’ Tizo is a weekly time of community and fellowship for your team often accompanied by a meal. It focuses on three key aspects: Community, Character (being faithful, available, and teachable), and Life Vision. Tizo is a safe place where people from different backgrounds and viewpoints can share honestly and listen openly to the thoughts and ideas of others. It is intended to result in changed lives, not just intellectual or academic discussion. Tizo is a time to challenge and be challenged, to encourage and to edify. It takes preparation, an open heart, a listening ear and a willingness to participate. While it may not always be easy, time spent together in Tizo is rewarding.
