Teachers work around twelve hours each week including three-to-six hours of lesson preparation and administrative duties.

Team community is highly valued here. Team meetings are at least once a week and teachers meet informally or with Tunisian friends often.

What does ongoing professional/personal development look like?

Teachers work with their team leader to develop an individualized plan for ongoing professional development. This can include pursuing ongoing education through online degrees and certificates and collaborating with other university teachers and local colleagues. First-year teachers complete their observations and Wheaton College TESL certification while teaching at a language club or university.

What is housing like?

Housing is fairly inexpensive and often quite spacious, so several singles of the same gender often share one home. These homes may or may not come furnished, so teachers may need to buy things like appliances and furniture. The Tunisia team will help new teachers to find housing.

What is it like to raise a family in Tunisia?

This family-centered culture lends itself well to expat families. There are plentiful parks where children can play.

If only one spouse is teaching, the other will find plenty of opportunities to learn the local language, volunteer in conversation clubs, and help in administrative roles. They often meet with students outside of class and help with the more time-consuming aspects of daily life.
