I've served with ELIC for the past 20 years in various roles. My wife and I and our two young children were called to China with ELIC in 1988. Having been public school teachers previously we were astounded at the interest and responsiveness of our university students in Asia. After studying Chinese at ELIC's Chinese Language Program for two years and serving as a personnel advisor for our teachers in China we returned home to begin working with our US office in San Dimas. ELIC continues to be a tremendous blessing to our family and a top-notch organization for outreach to students throughout Asia. Let me know how I can assist you as you continue to run the race and discern your calling.

I’ve been working with ELIC for eighteen years now, mobilizing Christians to serve as English teachers to students throughout China and East Asia. In that time, I have spent two summers teaching overseas with ELIC: China in 1991 and Mongolia in 1998. I love working at ELIC for the simple reason that it is so fulfilling to challenge people to answer the call to serve. Before joining ELIC, I served for eight years in Taiwan and spent 16 years teaching at a private college.

I have had the privilege of working with ELIC both in China and stateside since 2003. As a recent college graduate I followed my dream of serving in China as an English teacher and joined a team of ELIC teachers for 2 ½ years in Hunan Province. While serving my students in China, I was also able to grow as a teacher through the Wheaton College Intercultural Studies and TEFL Masters program. It was such a privilege to be even a small part of the great work going on in China right now. Now, it is my joy to serve by sending more teachers to Asia with a passion to impact Asia with the truth. I look forward to being a part of your journey!

I went to China in 2004 ready to change the world, but I quickly realized that the greatest changes were taking place in my own heart as I lived life with my Chinese students and colleagues. It was humbling to teach for two years in a culture that reveres its teachers so much, but watching lives change as they encountered Truth and Hope made it clear that my teammates and I had clearly been called to China for such a time as this. I look forward to serving you as you begin your own life-changing journey!

I have served with ELIC for a total of 4 years. From 1996-97, I was ELIC’s Business Manager in Vietnam and got to serve with some of ELIC’s first teachers in Vietnam. After getting married, my wife and I returned to Asia with ELIC and made Phnom Penh, Cambodia our home from 2000-2004. My wife taught law and economic university students English and I was our team leader and ELIC’s Country Director. I am grateful to be in a role that encourages and enables Christians to take advantage of great opportunities to serve the people of Asia and to be a part of an exciting work there.

Anne Edmunds Candidate Counselor

In 2004 I knew that I wanted to go overseas, but Asia was not what I had in mind. However, the Father's calling was clear and the work in Asia was so important that I felt compelled to go to Vietnam. I was in for a surprise! I thought I was going to Asia to teach, but my students taught me so much. I thought I was going to give, but I received more than I had imagined. I thought I'd be there one year, but I stayed for more than three. I stayed because the friendships I made in Vietnam are some of the greatest treasures I have ever "stored up." It was a joy to share the love of the Father and communicate the Truth to friends who had never heard! I look forward to helping you find the surprises that will come with your calling.

Kelly Harris Candidate Counselor

(888) 475 - 3542  kharris@elic.org

I knew when I graduated college that I wanted to serve in a culture different from my own as it would inevitably expand my vision for the world and solidify the truths I had learned growing up. When given the opportunity a year after graduating, I left the States to serve with ELIC’s UTP program in China. I lived in Zhengzhou, Henan for 1 year and in Qinhuangdao, Hebei for 2 years. As a result of those 3 years, my journey has been forever transformed. I not only saw my own heart change, but the hearts of my students and teammates as well. It is now my vision and privilege to be able to take what I’ve learned and offer it to others as I serve various universities and organizations in the Southeast. I can’t wait to experience this next adventure!

Pam Van Tol Candidate Counselor

(888) 475 - 3542  pvantol@elic.org

Four years ago, I was a seasoned Christian school teacher with a growing fire in my heart to go beyond my community to share the Truth with others. During my search for this kind of work I heard the Father’s call to teach in Asia with ELIC. In the 3 years I taught English in China I have had a variety of experiences. I have lived in a small, northern city and a large, southern city; have been a team leader; and have taught university students and university professors. I established lasting relationships with Chinese friends that allowed me to introduce them to true Joy. My time teaching English in China was priceless. Now I am eager to help you as you seek to work in Asia to bring Truth as well. I look forward to working with you as you discern your calling.

I started with ELIC in January 2001, as a university teacher in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. I served there for three and half years as a teacher and also a personnel advisor. I then moved to Beijing, where I became the personnel director for China's UTP Program for three years. I count it a privilege to have lived in China for six and half years. It was an amazingly humbling experience to be a part of the work and see people's lives changed. I consider myself blessed to be a part of this organization and I am excited about helping others go to Asia to fulfill their calling in this great work.

Ashley Miller Candidate Counselor

In October of 2000, I sat in a meeting with an ELIC representative and heard her share about her experience teaching English in Asia. I felt as though the Father was standing over me, pouring out a watering can filled with His love for the Chinese students as I looked through her pictures and heard their stories. Soon after, I applied with ELIC and went to China in the fall of 2001 to teach English at Anhui Normal University in Wuhu, China, Anhui province for two years. The most joy I have ever felt in my life was during those two years I lived in China. There were opportunities to share the Master’s love almost every day and the students’ hunger for Truth grows more and more each year. Upon returning to the states I continued to be involved with the work happening in Asia through various roles. Now as a Candidate Counselor and representative for ELIC, I have the same privilege of sharing about the work in Asia in hopes that others will feel the same pull as I did that day back in 2000. I look forward to working with and preparing you for service in Asia! You will find that Asia has a way of working its way into your heart; you will never be the same!
