“My Grandmother is Chinese.” At least that’s what I tell Chinese students when they ask me how I know so much about China.  I’m actually English, Scottish, and a tiny bit American Indian.  But I LOVE China – the people, the food, the musical instruments, even the bicycles and crowded streets.  I’m a people watcher and China is a people watcher’s dream!  I’ve lived in China for three years, two as a teacher and one as a student.  I’ve participated in two summer English programs, most recently at Peking University in 2005.  I believe China is good for everyone and I want to do all I can to help you get there and to ensure that your summer is as life changing as my first summer was.  Oh, by the way, I’m the new director of Summer Teaching Programs here at ELIC and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi!  I joined ELIC in 1998 when I participated in the Summer Teaching Program in Henan province. I then taught in Anhui province from 2000-2002 with the University Teaching Program.  Living in China changed my life and I saw it change the lives of my students, whether it was teaching casual greetings, discussing the meaning of life or discovering that scorpions taste better than they look.  I’m privileged to be working from Grand Rapids, Michigan for the Summer Teaching Programs and look forward to sharing with you the joy and challenge of living and working in Asia.

I love adventure, whether that means traveling to remote villages in Asia, discovering what bamboo worms taste like, or learning about another culture through building new friendships with international students. Sharing in people's hearts and discussing the journey of life is my joy. I am privileged to serve as the administrative assistant for the Summer Teaching Programs where I get to help send wonderful individuals such as yourself on the adventure of serving students in Asia.
