In 1990, the first ELIC teaching team brought a new language and a living hope to this amazing country of pristine beauty and engaging people. In those early years it seemed to our teachers that Mongolia was not just another country, but also frozen in another era. The capital, Ulaanbaatar, had the look and feel of a 1950s European city. Since that time, the changes have been fast and touch virtually every area of life. The United Nations now estimates that over the next five years Mongolia will be the world’s fastest growing economy. Our Mongolia team has the privilege of having front row seats as these monumental changes continue.

One of the unique programs we offer in Mongolia is the EXCEL Program, served by our University Teaching Program team. Through this highly regarded 2-year program, current secondary school English teachers living in Ulaanbaatar improve their English language and teaching skills. The EXCEL course is different from a typical ELIC classroom experience, consisting instead of seminars and coaching visits to students’ classrooms, as well as regular weekly instruction time. Each ELIC teacher provides intensive instruction and mentoring to about 15 students.

Another exciting initiative we’ve been asked to embrace is the teaching of both English and content classes in bilingual high schools. Here is a perfect opportunity for you to use your background in business, math, science or music to invest in the future leaders of Mongolia.

Currently our year-round Mongolia team includes 18 adults and 5 children. We have recently received an urgent request for an additional 100 teachers to fill needed positions in every area of the country, including the establishing of Community Language Centers.
